Millionaire Matchmaker goes gay

For those of us at home this Thursday night, May 7, the Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger, goes gay:

Watch the preview clip, also embedded on our website:

Does she think her gold-plated gut instincts will work in the gay community?

"There would have to be a gay person at the helm to consult with me," she says. "But attraction is attraction. When a guy comes in and he's flamingly queeny and he goes for butch, you can't give him another queen. Somebody wants their car door opened. Somebody wants to be called back. Somebody wants someone to pay the bill. It's not about the sexuality. You have to be able to hear what attracts somebody."

What Stanger is also hearing is the rattle of serious coin. She believes the well of millionaire gays runs deep. "The gay community has a lot of money because there's no second decision maker," says Stanger. "They don't have an ex-wife or children. But what they're saying to me is that there's a whole subset of the gay community, where people are hooking up for real love. And that's why they want marriage." [NYP]

The premise is simple: Patti and her staff work with their millionaire clients, recruit potential matches and use their matchmaking magic to fit couples together for committed relationships. Her rules (before the commitment) include no sex, and if you're her client (and you really want a match) then you follow all of her instructions, to the "t". She claims a 99% satisfaction rate.

Millionaire Matchmaker's first gay is on tonight (Thursday, May 7), starting at 9p on Bravo.

  1. Someone needs to help her understand that gay people go far beyond the stereotypes she seems to be operating under when she states "They don't have an ex-wife or children." At least she understands "people are hooking up for real love." We have a long way to go to overcome the stereotypes that are used to marginalize us. While I'm not sure this program will help much, at least she is willing to acknowledge gay people exist, even if she is exploiting us for her own gain. Am I being too cynical?
