More photos from Napa's first same-sex marriage

Photos of today's momentous event from today's Napa Valley Register, also with a request in the comments section, "I encourage someone who is gay to write in. I'd love to hear their response to these posts. " ...and YES, the posts in the comments section are just as ridiculous, out-of-control and blazen as you'd think they'd be. They're also joyous, celebratory, congratulatory and sweet. Go figure.

Carol Whichard, right, holds up a piece of paper with the number one written on it, showing that her and partner Deb Stallings, left, would be the first same-sex couple in Napa County to be issued a marriage license. Five same-sex couples were issued licenses as soon as the County Clerk's office doors opened on Tuesday morning. J.L. Sousa/Register

Napa County Clerk John Tuteur, left, congratulates Deb Stallings, center, and her partner Carol Whichard of Napa. Stallings and Whichard were the first same sex couple in Napa County to receive a marriage license. The couple plan to marry in September. J.L. Sousa/Register
