Ten seconds to support equality

Instead of trying to debate those whose minds are more closed than the county offices on Memorial Day, here's a 10-second way to get your voice heard. From the tipline:
If you're in support of the right of same-sex couples to marry (just like everyone else), please take a moment to make a quick, automated call to Gov Schwarzenegger's office. I did it and it took less than 10 seconds.

Dial 916-445-2841
At the prompts, press 1...5...1...1

The Gov's office is receiving A LOT of calls against gay marriage, so each one of our calls are important.
All it takes is a couple moments, and you'll just leave a message of your support and that you hope the governor will also support equality and the right to marriage for all. With things like this (and writing letters) I remember how my 12th grade government teacher said that government reps (like the Governor) have it calculated so that each call actually represents a number of people (because they know that for every bunch that believe in an issue, only one will call). So really, your call for equality counts for more than just one!

  1. Just tried calling several times...only get a busy signal.

Unfortunately, this is really out of the governor's hand now (he had two opportunities.) At least he's come out against the constitutional amendment.

My advice - get involved. I've attended several events where Geoff Korrs from Equality California has spoken. Great organization! Their website is www.eqca.org.

  2. Yeah, it's probably super busy, many conservative groups are also posting that number up all over and in email chains, trying to get the word out to overwhelm the governor with support AGAINST gay marriage...

I'm gonna keep trying to call just so that he doesn't hear only from conservatives. I'm also on HRC's mailing list to get updates on the campaign, and MOST DEFINITELY Equality CA is a great org. I love the commercial (and posted it, here) for Let California Ring (the one with the bride who keeps hitting obstacles on the way to her wedding). I showed it to a Mormon friend of mine who is supportive of me and our friendship, but is generally against gay marriage. She definitely was impacted by the emotional reality of being denied something so beautiful as an honest wedding day.

Guess "I can't wait to get my civil commitment ceremony dress" isn't as catchy. Thank God.
