I was making home-made mole tonight in the kitchen (I'm a late eater cuz I'm a late starter to cook) when the 10 O'Clock news came on and I heard something about a new poll about same-sex marriage approval ratings. I paused from toasting the chipotle and ancho peppers for a second to catch the headline...I was thinking I already knew what was coming, having read an article on 365Gay earlier this weekend about how 51% of Californians are against gay marriage...However, KTVU had their own "exclusive, field poll" which shows that, "for the first time ever, a MAJORITY of Californians support same-sex marriage". In fact, the same percentage as in the 365Gay article--51%--are in favor of same-sex marriage. A much smaller amount--42%--disapprove, and seven percent had no comment.
I was excited that the tide had switched so quickly, but also wary of being toyed with. I quickly jumped online to look up the details that they quickly went over...
They explained the conflicting information:
However, the field poll says most people oppose the ballot initiative. DiCamillo says the numbers suggest that changes of the initiative's passage are not great.[See the full article at KTVU.com: Poll Shows Majority Support For Same-Sex Marriage]
There is a Southern California newspaper poll out that suggests most Californian's favor the initiative, but independent analysts say field polls tend to be more reliable.

Meanwhile, in other same-sex marriage news:
- The Governor's phone has been busy all day long. Not sure if it's clogged with those in support or against us. But keep trying until you get through!
- CA counties are aiming to begin same-sex marriages as soon as June 14, according to the president of the California County Clerk's Association.
- No word yet on Napa County's start date, but send an email to John Tuteur, Napa County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk at jtuteur@co.napa.ca.us if you'd like to get email updates on when Napa will begin. (Fabulous gay vineyard weddings here we come! Remember, I'd love an invite!)
