The California Supreme Court has overturned a ban on gay marriage, paving the way for California to become the second state where gay and lesbian residents can marry. [SF Gate]This is exciting, but also worrysome, as anti-gay-marriage activists (and paid signature gatherers) have recently submitted hundreds-of-thousands of signatures to put a ban back on the ballot for this November. This ruling will definitely stir up those fearful of allowing gay marriage and will most likely heat up the showdown at the polls.
The justices' 4-3 decision Thursday says domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage. Chief Justice Ron George wrote the opinion. [USAToday]

I can already hear the wineries, hotels and ballrooms gearing up. Can you imagine a Napa Valley gay wedding?! Decadent!

Excellent news. I watched the whole court hearing a few months back and I've been looking forward to the verdict, I have to say I'm really happy. Now we just gotta defend it in November!
