Another Prop 8 protest today, Statewide gathering at the Capital Building

I've been hearing the buzz through text messages and email, so I had to share:
On Saturday, November 22 at 2:00pm PST, equality-minded citizens from across the state and country will take part in "Take it to Sacramento," a massive protest against the bigoted and hateful Proposition 8 on the steps of our State Capitol Building in Sacramento, CA.

With an estimated attendance larger than any other gay rights demonstration to ever take place in the state, this event promises to send a clear message to the state and the nation that civil rights are inalienable among all its citizens. Los Angeles-based California Outreach and Sacramento-based Equality Action Now have teamed up to organize this historic event, and the outpouring of support has already been incredible. State and local politicians, celebrities, religious dignitaries, corporate sponsors, and community leaders will be in attendance and available for comments and media interviews.

Guest Speakers include:
  • Margaret Cho & Selene Luna, comediennes/activists
  • Gloria Allred, Attorney in the Supreme Court Marriage Cases
  • Senator Darrell Steinberg, President-elect of the California State Senate
  • Reverend Amos Brown, NAACP Board Member
  • Robin Tyler & Diane Olson, plaintiffs in the Supreme Court Marriage Cases
  • John Lewis and Stuart Gaffney, plaintiffs in the Supreme Court Marriage Cases
  • Shannon Minter, attorney with the National Center For Lesbian Rights
  • Geoff Kors, Equality California Executive Director
  • Gavin Newsom, Mayor Of San Francisco (tentative)

I think it's great we're not letting things die down, but I'm curious to see if 30,000 will show up only a week after the National Day of Protest. Maybe a weekly gathering is what we need to keep up the momentum. Your thoughts?
