It wasn't always a parade...

Here is some footage of and interviews with the first participants (via Joe.My.God. via the NY City Gay & Lesbian Community Center) in the very first Pride Parade. Except that in June, 1970, it wasn't called Pride, it was called "The Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day" and it wasn't a parade it was an "almost-militant" march.

Youtube clip of the march and interviews, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj1AlL43Y0o

We'd love to hear from any Napa (or nearby) locals who participated in any of the early years of the gay movement... And, is it me, or does Napa still feel like it's in the early years?

  1. Showing just such a video is a good way to make the citizens of Napa more familiar with the gay community (educate us).
    Thank you.
