Everyone needs a sassy gay friend!

So this rainy, gray, lazy Sunday is a great time to share my recent favorite videos going around the gay intertubes.

Here's what would have happened differently if Juliet had a sassy-gay-friend:

...and Ophelia (from Hamlet):

...and Desdemona (from Othello):

Any favorite lines from these? Do you have a sassy gay friend? Are *you* the sassy gay friend?

You Belong With Me video goes gay

This is cute and heartwarming, so even thought it's been making the rounds, I felt I had to share:

Produced for the University of Rochester Yellowjackets, this video was aired as part of a live performance of the a capella singing group. It's almost a shot for shot remake of "You Belong With Me", except with a slight twist...

...and here's Taylor Swift's original:

Counter protest

Saw these recently when I've been surfing the intertubes and they made me chuckle. Might as well counteract hate with laughter...

Shake Weight: amazing workout or completely inappropriate?

Need a Thursday afternoon giggle?

Sure, this might be childish. But seriously, "the rapid, short, and powerful thrust of the shake weight"...will crack you up. Click through for the full clip, embedded on the site:
  • "You'll feel the burn instantly."
  • "It's an all over workout, with your breathing, and your arms pumping..."
  • "I haven't had a pump like this in a long time."
  • "The shake weight is built to last."

Protecting traditional marriage: gays can quote the Bible, too!

Looks like conservative Christian fundamentalists aren't the only ones who can use the Bible to protect traditional marriage:
"A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed." Deuteronomy 22:13-21

Kanye interrupts this blog

Rude! Now that was completely disrespectful, Kanye!

For those who missed it, hip-hop artist Kanye West barged onstage and interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at MTVs Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Ben & Jerry's celebrates Vermont's marriage equality, same-sex weddings start today

As we celebrated in April, the State of Vermont became the first to approve of same-sex marriage through a vote and decision by their legislature (meaning the courts didn't force them to do it, they chose it for their people!).

Today's the day that the new law goes into effect.

Ben & Jerry's, a Vermont-based company, is celebrating by changing the packaging and temporarily renaming one of their flavors and giving it away for free in trucks across Vermont:
Ben & Jerry’s, which has long backed liberal causes, plans to rebrand “Chubby Hubby” as “Hubby Hubby” for 30 days to show support for Vermont’s new law. The move is mostly symbolic, as Burlington-based Ben & Jerry’s isn’t changing labels on “Chubby Hubby” pints sold in stores...
In the meantime, a wedding-themed Ben & Jerry’s truck will hand out free “Hubby Hubby” across Vermont today. Scheduled stops include the Vermont Capitol, where lawmakers passed a gay-marriage law that takes effect today.

Ben & Jerry’s six Vermont ice cream parlors also plan to sell special “Hubby Hubby” sundaes during September. Gay-marriage backers see Ben & Jerry’s move as sweet sign of support.

NY Firefighters calendar gives Napa winemakers & farmers a run for their money

Of course Napa winemakers and farmers aren't the only using hot local guys as a fundraiser. The guys from the FDNY also have one that seems to be quite successful.
Proceeds from the calendar go to the Staten Island University Hospital Burn Center. This year's cover is Chad Stertefeldt, a 26-year-old Brooklyn firefighter.

Thanks to Joe.My.God. for the tip. Again, I have my gay male biases, so if you're a lovely lady that loves ladies or anyone else in the queer spectrum with a different perspective, send in your tips, links, vids, etc. and I'll post the good stuff.

Nobody puts Channing Tatum in the Corner!

There's a weird video going around of Channing Tatum playing Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing (and guest starring Charlyne Yi as Baby). Who knows what the video was made for, but I found it interesting, if just to see Channing Tatum shirtless. (Ladies if you ever find sexy-but-still-safe-for-work vids or photos that catch your attention, please send them my way--what can I say, my gaydar, likes and dislikes just happen to be biased towards the male variety. I need some help expanding the blogs tastes with fun little videos and links like these.)

The crazy thing about this video is that I'm not sure it's very entertaining. It reminded me of the eerie Jonas Brothers video where (quasi-gay?) Joe dances to Beyonce's Single Ladies. It's obviously to promote something, but it just isn't that good, and Justin did it better anyways. But I'll give it to soon-to-be-G.I. Joe, he is yummy.

Your thoughts?

Harry Potter is gay

I love me some Harry Potter! For anyone and everyone else who does, too, or who has caught "sixth movie" fever this week, here's a little bit of fun, embedded as a video on the site. Looks like Dumbledore might not be the only undercover gay in the series...

Whatcha think? And in other news, did any of you see the new movie?

Thanks to Queerty for the tip.

Napa winegrower's go nude (again) for calendar fundraiser

This year's "Napa Uncovered", a 12 month calendar featuring local "wine growers, ranchers and winery owners from the Napa Valley Farm Bureau" is now available for ordering from their website.

The featured local "farmers" range in age from 25-59 and as one commented about the cause: "‘Napa Uncovered’ highlights the farm bureau’s efforts to promote land conservation and sustainable agriculture,” said Nissen, vineyard manager, Nissen Vineyard Services, Inc., and seen as “Mr. October” in the new calendar. “I declined the offer to model the first time but changed my mind this time because it was for a good cause. It also proved to be a lot of fun.”
Calendars, which sell for $23, can be purchased at www.napauncovered.com. The limited edition autographed calendar sells for $40. Proceeds support Napa County agricultural preservation.
Unfortunately the website (and even the whole internets?) do not offer any other photos or enlarged images for preview, so I have yet to choose a favorite, although it looks like a fun gift for those who like the lighter side of the Napa lifestyle.

Hot damn, Mandy Steckelberg loves the gays

Also embedded on the main site, you might have caught Mandy Steckelberg's fun, campy, Indigo-ish tune somewhere else over the intertubes before, but I had never seen it until now. I hope you enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Really? Mazda Miatas? Cargo pants?

Clueless sequel on the way?

After how many stars my last pop-gossip bit got (really? you gave it two stars?), I'm not sure I should be sharing this, but I couldn't help myself.

It's been such an emotional roller coaster: rumors had been bouncing around the twitterverse that Alicia Silverstone is in the works for a sequel to 1995's smash (cult, gay?) hit, Clueless. And, so, of course I was like, totally stoked. But then today, I heard, like, that may so not be the case. And I was like, totally disappointed. But then they were all, "we're not really sure either way."

So it might be coming. And that's what made this post worth it.

And, feel free (as if you need permission) to tell me in the comments that I should stick to local news and forgo emergency announcements about Hillary Duff and Alicia Silverstone.

Hillary Duff says she'll spend Mother's Day in Napa

Wow, this twitter thing can be useful! Just found out that Hillary Duff plans to come to Napa for Mother's Day. Via Just Jared:
“My mom’s birthday is two days after Mother’s Day and it’s not a surprise, so I can tell you,” the 21-year-old told JustJared.com at last week’s Tribeca Film Festival party. “We’re going to Napa! We’ve never been and I’m 21 now, so we get to do wine tasting and other fun things like that. I don’t know if it’ll be exactly on her birthday because of schedules, but we’ll do a trip like that.
Any fans out there plan on politely following her around the Valley? Twitter's a great way to keep us all in the know. Or you could also use The Fruit's tipline or comments.
